Warning: We cannot yet recommend the egrips product for the hiptop. Except for some of the animal prints, they have a metallized backing that covers the antenna, causing a 10dB signal strength loss. We are working closely with Flexible Innovations to find the best solution for the hiptop.
When the New York Times Circuits section reviewed egrips, the sticky-backed grippers
for PDAs and cell phones, I immediately checked their web site to see
if they offered their product for the Hiptop. Fred Antonini of
Flexible Innovations responded quickly and told me he would head to
CompUSA to buy one! The site listed them a couple of weeks later
(here),
and I ordered a pair: one dimpled silver, and one green/yellow smooth. They arrived today
(8/30/03).
I applied the silver smooth grip to the back of my hiptop. I'm not sure I'll use the side grips. Even with the grip in place, the Sidekick still fits into the black and orange case. It's really more of a white than a silver.
Also included in the package were an alcohol swab for cleaning the back before application, and an ad for GETBACK, a $15 lost-item registration service offered by egrips. The registration sticker fits in the small rectangular area that's scored off on the back of the sticker in the picture below.
Now if only someome would make an attachement that keeps the wrist strap tab from scratching my thumb!
